The Municipality of Calamba, Misamis Occidental celebrates the 113th Independence Day

 

June 12 is one of the most important dates in the history of the Philippines. The Local Government Unit of Calamba, Misamis Occidental joined the nationwide celebration of the 113th Independence Day last June 12, 2011 at 6:30 A.M. with this year’s theme ” KALAYAAN, PANININDIGAN NG BAYAN”.

The Municipal Officials spearheaded by Municipal Mayor Dr. Luisito B. Villanueva, Jr., MNSA, Municipal Vice Mayor Jesus C. Enerio, members of the Sangguniang Bayan, Philippine National Police, 55th Infantry Battalion, National and Municipal Employees, Knights of Columbus, Sacred Heart College Faculties and Staffs, Calamba National Comprehensive High School Faculties and Staffs, Calamba Teachers and Employees Association (CALTEA), Federated Women Welfare Association (FWWA), MOELCI-I Employees, Barangay Officials headed by ABC President/SB Member Ezel T. Villanueva gathered together at the Municipal Quadrangle for the parade going to Rizal Rotunda for the short program and wreath laying ceremony.

The proper program of the 113th celebration started with a flag raising ceremony.

Municipal Mayor Villanueva made his welcome address after the wreath laying and song intermission. Mayor Villanueva in his welcome address revealed the planned renovation of Mateo Matunog Gymnasium. He even said that probably by next year the celebration of the Independence Day will be held at our new gymnasium.  

The intermission song “AKO AY PILIPINO” sung by Ms. Jufemae Postanes of Sacred Heart College – High School Department and the Filipiniana Costume of Ms. Charie L. Millana of Sacred Heart College – College Department made the ambiance more historic. 

Department of Education District Supervisor Mrs. Luzminda C. Paye was the guest of honor. In her speech she recalled how the Filipinos attained the freedom from foreign rules because of the sacrifices of our ancestors who fought for us and the country’s freedom.   

The wreath laying ceremony or flower offering at the footstep of Dr. Jose Rizal symbolized the respect of the Calambahanons to the Filipinos who fought for the country to obtain the freedom. 

Despite of the heavy rains the participants and guests remained standing holding their umbrellas and lessening to every speech. The sacrifice showed how the Calambahanons respected and showed their appreciation to those Filipinos who died for the country.
