The LGU of Calamba, Misamis Occidental leads the 115^th Rizal Day Celebration

When Filipino people talked of heroes, Dr. Jose Rizal comes first to mind. The Local Government Unit of Calamba, Misamis Occidental led the commemoration of the 115^th death anniversary of National Hero Dr. Jose P. Rizal with the theme “RIZALISMO: SANDIGAN NG KAUNLARAN, PAGKAKAISA AT KAPAYAPAAN”.

The LGU of Calamba, Misamis Occidental joined the simultaneous nationwide flag raising ceremony and flower offering at Rizal Monument and the most anticipated occasion.  Rizal Day is observed every 30^th of December in honoring the bravery of our National Hero for sacrificing his life for the welfare and freedom of his countrymen and the country. 

The commemoration started with a parade from the Municipal Quadrangle going to Rizal Rotunda for the proper program at 6:30 in the morning. Municipal Officials headed by Municipal Vice Mayor Jesus C. Enerio and Municipal Employees headed by Municipal Administrator Godfrey C. Atay, Philippine National Police Officers (Calamba Police Station), Calamba Teachers and Employees Association (CALTEA), Misamis Occidental Electric Cooperative  Inc. (MOELCI-I) Employees,   Local Council of Women Members and Barangay Officials.

After the parade a simple ceremony followed. Municipal Vice Mayor Jesus C. Enerio delivered his speech on behalf of Municipal Mayor Villanueva who is out of town. 

The event is highlighted by flag-raising and wreath-laying ceremonies at the Rizal Monument.

Mr. Leo Kirby B.  Nagasan a Certified Public Accountant, cumlaude graduate of Liceo de Cagayan, Cagayan de Oro City and currently working as an Internal Auditor of Misamis Occidental Electric Cooperative Inc. (MOELCI)  was the guest speaker.

Ms. Jevie Lou Y. Abelita a nurse of Calamba District Hospital sung “Ako ay Pilipino”

All guests were amused by a 5 year old boy named Gustavo T. Neri, V the great grandson of the late Municipal Mayor Gustavo Neri who performed the poem “Mi Ultimo Adios” the Spanish for “My Last Farewell”. The young boy memorized the 14h stanza of the poem and made the audience amazed
