Calamba Federated Women’s Basketball League 2009

The whole month of March is the Women’s Month. The Federation of Women’s Welfare Association (FWWA) of Calamba, Misamis Occidental spearheaded by Sangguniang Bayan Member and SB Committee Chairman on Women Hon. Judelyn E. Bolotaolo  in coordination with the Local Government Unit of Calamba held a Calamba Federated Women’s Basketball League 2009 with the theme: “TEAMWORK AND COOPERATION…..UNITY THROUGH SPORTS”

The opening of the basketball league started with a parade along the municipality at 2 o’clock in the afternoon on March 1, 2009 with the members of the Women Association of the 19 Barangays with their respective basketball players. 

After the parade the players and the guests proceed to the gym for the proper opening of the basketball league.

Municipal Mayor Dr. Luisito B. Villanueva, Jr. MNSA and Municipal Vice Mayor Jesus C. Enerio graced the occasion.

Hon Bolotaolo said “the basketball league promotes teamwork, sportsmanship and it will build a positive attitude towards camaraderie among their opponent. 

This is the first time the Federation of Women’s Welfare Association holds a sport for women. Through this kind of sports the women exhibit their women power.

The Federated Women’s Basketball League 2009 is to provide basketball sports for women with integrity and fair play. The league shows how women especially mothers can also be competitive in terms of sports.

The Federated Women’s Basketball League 2009 showcased the hidden talents of women in basketball perhaps not yet seen in the public. Women are not only good in taking good care of their families but the FWBL show the other side of women, the women in hard court. 

Basketball after all is a sport that puts the best on women and each team to be competitive. All the teams have been practicing almost every night so they already knew the rules and regulations.

At 7:30 in the evening the gym filled with viewers eager to see the first women basketball league. Municipal Mayor Dr. Luisito B. Villanueva, jr. MNSA officially opened the tournament then followed by the ceremonial tossing of the ball initiated by Sangguniang Panlalawigan Hon. Edilma C. Bulawin. 

The municipal gymnasium echoed with women from all walks of life cheering their favorite teams. You can hear audience shouting and laughing every time a player can shoot a ball.

The players were really excited and they feel the thrill seeing there selves on the hard court. During the first game the Yellow Warriors almost made it but because of time constrain the Blue Heaven won with only half shot. The second game was the Green Power and Red Lion. During the 1st quarter of the game the Green Power dominates the game. The Green Power won.   

Organizing the game features the best women basketball teams in the municipality and the game made possible through the efforts of all the members of the Federation for Women Welfare Association. The basketball league for women is until March 31, 2009 only.
