“THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT UNIT OF CALAMBA, MISAMIS OCCIDENTAL COMMEMORATES THE 113TH MARTYRDOM OF DR. JOSE P. RIZAL”
The Local Government Unit of Calamba, Misamis Occidental joined the nationwide celebration of the 113th Rizal’s Day on December 30, 2009. This year's commemoration has the theme "KABAYANIHAN NI RIZAL: DALUYAN NG KAGITINGAN AT PAGKAKAISA."
The celebration started with a parade from the Municipal quadrangle going to Rizal Rotunda for the proper program as early as 6:30 in the morning. Municipal officials and employees headed by Municipal Mayor Dr. Luisito B. Villanueva, Jr., MNSA, National employees, Philippine National Police Officers (Calamba Police Station), Veterans Federation of the Philippines – Calamba Post, Calamba Teachers and Employees Association (CALTEA), Misamis Occidental Electric Cooperative Inc. (MOELCI-I) employees, Local Council of Women members, Barangay Officials headed by ABS President Ezel T. Villanueva gathered together to commemorates the 113th Anniversary of the martyrdom of Philippine’s National Hero Dr. Jose P. Rizal. After the parade, a short program was held expressing the heroism of Dr. Rizal to his country. Ms. Dixie Beryl B. Samosa a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Siliman University and currently working at Calamba District Hospital was the guest of honor. In her speech, she remembered the life of Rizal, his bravery, sacrifices for the love of his country and his fellow citizens. Municipal Mayor Villanueva led the flag raising ceremony and the floral offering ceremony together with representative from the other sectors who also paved respect to our National Hero.
Ms. Jhevie Lou Y. Abelita sung the song “Ako ay Pilipino” popularized by Ms. Kuh Ledesma. The song adds meaning to the occasion.
