“Search for the Most Delicious Cassava Based product and Labelling Desing during the 62nd Araw ng Calamba” The Municipality of Calamba, Misamis Occidental is mainly an agricultural area. It has an abundant supply of coconut as the main product. Aside from coconut, planting cassava is another agricultural product that was introduce to the farmers. Cassava is one of the biggest agricultural productions in Calamba.
The Local Government Unit of Calamba, Misamis Occidental in coordination with the Calamba Local Tourism Council spearheaded by Sangguniang Bayan Committee Chairman on Tourism Hon. Judelyn E. Bolotaulo and ABC President/Chairman Local Tourism Council Hon. Ezel T. Villanueva held the Search for Most Delicious Cassava Based Product and Labeling Design Contest last February 10, 2010, 2 o’clock in the afternoon at Mateo Matunog Gymnasium. Board Member of the 1st District of Misamis Occidental Hon. Edilma C. Bulawin graced the occasion. The LGU of Calamba is planning to put up a Pasalubong Center to promote local products of Calamba. So in line with this future plan, the Local Tourism Council searched the best delicacy using the cassava products. One of the reasons why the LGU held this contest so that Calamba will known to be as the best cassava delicacy maker (Tatak Calambahanon). This is the first time the LGU of Calamba hosted a cooking competition. The participants for the Most Delicious Cassava Based Products were the Women Organizations from the different Barangays of the Municipality. The traditional role of a woman is to take care of her family and to do her best at home or her career. This is the time the women will shine through a contest that will bring the best in their cooking style and ability. They were 16 participating Women Organizations from the Barangays that excitedly competed the contest. For the Labeling Design Contest there were three contestants, students from Calamba National Comprehensive High School, College of Communication, Information and Technology (CCIT) and Liberation Institute. The search is a highly anticipating event and has attracted 16 participating Barangays. For the Search for Most Delicious Cassava Based Product, the event is divided into three (3) categories: Baked Category, Fried Category and Steamed Category. For the Labeling Design Contest there are three (3) categories, the Fruit Based, Cassava Based and Coconut Based. For the Search of Delicious Cassava, judges selected the winners on the basis of cooking style and presentation. While for the labeling design the judge selected the label that has a complete instructions and information. The winners were the following: For the Baked Category the winner goes to Barangay Langub, her entries is cassava cake. For the Fried Category the winner is from Barangay Sulipat and Barangay Salvador won for the Steamed Category. The College of Communication, Information and Technology (CCIT) won the three (3) categories for the Labeling Design. The judges from the Department of Trade and Industry and Provincial Agriculture Office were so amazed of the winners’ creativity. The event is truly successful it brings the best culinary skills of the participants and creating both innovative and educational not only for the participants but for the audience as well.
