The Municipality of Calamba, Misamis Occidental joined the nationwide celebration of the 116th Independence Day
In celebration of the 116th Independence Day with the theme “Kalayaan 2014: Pgsunod sa yapak ng mga Dakilang Pilipino tungo sa Malawakan at Permanenteng Pagbabago”. The Local Government Unit of Calamba, Misamis Occidental along with other government agencies and private sectors gathered together to commemorate the Independce Day.
Municipal Mayor Ezel T. Villanueva led Municipal Officials and employees, National and Employees and other participating sectors in the observance of the 116th Independence Day celebration at Rizal Rotunda at 7:45 a.m.
As early as 6 o’clock in the morning, the participants marched from municipal quadrangle to Rizal Rotunda for the proper program which is the Flag raising and wreath laying. The flag-raising ceremony highlights the tableau of the Philippine independence.
The wreath-laying/flower offering at Rizal’s monument is the Calambahanon’s way of paying tribute to our heroes who shed blood and died in serving the country for us to gain our freedom from Spanish rules.
Municipal Mayor Ezel T. Villanueva delivered her welcome address then followed by intermission number fromSWP Elementary School students.
Special guest of honor is Atty. Emerald Pancho, from Public Attorney’s Office of Calamba. Atty Pancho gives a message for the Calambahanon. He stressed the importance of honoring the people who died for the Filipino and the country.
Municipal Mayor Ezel T. Villanueva handed the certificate of appreciation to Atty. Pancho.
The main purpose of the celebration is to recall the bravery and heroism of the Filipinos.
The sectors participated are as follows: Colour/Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection, Veterans Federation of the Philippines-Calamba Post, Sacred Heart Elementary, High School and College Department Faculty and Staff, College of Communication, Information and Technology (CCIT) Faculty and Staff, Calamba National Comprehensive High School Faculty and Staff, Calamba Teachers and Employees Association (CALTEA), Liberation Institute Faculty and Staff, Misamis Occidental Electric Cooperative Inc. (MOELCI-I) Employees, Calamba District Hospital (CDH) Employees, Local Council of Women (LCW), Barangay Officials and Municipal Officials together with the National and Municipal Employees,
